:: My Family ::

Defined: any group of persons closely related by blood, as parents, children, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Would you rather spend time with your spouse or family?

This is a topic debated on a recent talkshow on channel U. Happen to chance upon it while I was channel surfing... and I was like- obviously your family!!

In a way, they are the ones you know will be there for you in times of trouble.

At least, that's what I think, one week ago-

Chinese New Year had never been as interesting & dramatic as what I've experience this year...

Day one - the cute & funky family

An enjoyable day at ah Po house with cousins from mama side.

For the first time I crapped it out with cousins, aunties & uncles. The usual... you very tall ehz, hows studies, where will you be working, nice hair, nice top, prettier, when getting married... yah... weird that people who are suppose to be 'close' aren't so close after all~

I start by Q n A session with any cousin that have the luck to sit beside me- wahaha... to the extent that Li Chang kor kor was like- 'did any of yr bf break up cos u ask too many questions?' *hummz- good point- but I continue asking-

At least now I know what they are doing... when they are getting married... and many interesting gossips-

I got cousin...

who ask me if I'm lesbian... he's the first btw.
who intend to adopt a child (but his mum dunno abt it yet...)
who have an overseas gf for 5-7 years without the family knowing
who taught me how to wash-black-money
who is getting married and we discussed on her planning... that gave me an insight to life beyond 21...

4th auntie brought lyrics of new year songs from her church and we had little Gwyneth distribute the lyrics and we all started singing in the living room. it's a surreal moment~

I can freely tell my cousins, proudly actually that I'll be entering the societal university soon!! *grinz

Day two - the dramatic & political encounter

I thought I'll be staying at home to finish up my ab311 tutorial and bf307 summary. but my daddy's brothers came to my house in the noon... unexpectedly-

I know a problem exist between my family and CY auntie. But I never know the root cause and details of it. Mum never wanna tell me. so my 'Lim cousins' start generating possibilities when cousin ah han drove us out to buy dinner- haha... it was- well, an adventure.

my Lim cousins (in my bedroom)

the gist of it... CY auntie has a darling precious son. The little cousin was at my place a few years back and he meddled with the keyboard without knowing what he was doing. so, I asked him to go to the living room to play so that I can concentrate with my work.

Damn. His mum asked if we bullied & abused him that's why he left the room.

WTH!

Then she says her son is really fond of me and me 'rejecting' him had cause his 'little glass heart to be broken'.

How drama can this get?

I thought she's exaggerating and so I think I just smiled when she told me.

And apparently, she isn't joking. Her kid was just around 5-6 years old then? and she brought him a lappy the very next day.

From then on we're turn from angels to demon. Everything we did is seen demonic in her eyes. Every word we breathe must be thought out carefully in case it triggers the alarm.

Yesterday, my mum insists on not going to a mutual uncle's house to prevent 'awkward' situation from happening. but I wanted to go- I dun see a need to avoid an eccentric old lady. It only boosts her ego.

And so we went. Just as we stepped into the house, she start speaking louder than ever. And fortunately, it's in hokkien so Jie & me din understand. If we did, I am sure we'll definitely retaliate! So I am truly amazed by mum and dad's tolerance and calmness in handling the situation. I'm amazed how they can hear this woman ill-speak our entire family and not fight back.

I love mum & dad for their strength!! Because of my dearie parents, we prevented the hair-pulling, fist-fighting on the day two of CNY.

To her, her son was the world. To 'protect' her son, she made some of my cousins stand outside her house to wait for their parents cos they are considered 'dirty' and not worthy to enter her fine doorstep.

My generation thinks that it's CY auntie fault. But no doubt it takes 2 hands to clap. Maybe our silence make her flare up more bahz- it just amplify her eccentricness... talking and no rebutural doesn't mean you've won... it just shows that you are not worth our effort in an argument.

I pity little cousin. Being brought up in such an environment is not the best for a kid his age. When the mum can ridicule the dad by calling him a 'clown' in front of all uncles and aunties... I hope he'll turn out well. All kids deserve the best nurturing.

Chinese New Year had never been so... well, interesting~

In every individual, it resides a wealth of experience to be explored.

Friendship Day with dear gers (a delayed posting)
