Thailand Road Trip 1208 - Day 1 - 2

We’re back safe and sound!

Thanks to all who send their well wishes and sorry for keeping everyone worried while we are travelling in the politically unstable land of a thousand smiles.

All that matters is the wonderful and exciting experiences we shared. =)

Day 1

Since we're travelling on 东季 itself, i woke up earlier to make 汤圆 for everyone. =)

We departed from Singapore Budget Terminal at arnd 12.45pm (Singapore Time) and arrived at Bangkok international airport at abt 2.10pm (Thailand Time). Had an expensive lunch at the airport eatery and head towards MBK for a mini food and water supplies shopping. Took Tuk-Tuk to the train station for cheap cheap 50 Baht.

-Our expensive 1,200 Baht Lunch at the Airport-

-Us with our heavy back packs @ MBK-

-Early dinner for 793 Baht at The Pizza Place @ MBK-

-Express Train from Bangkok to Chiangmai-

-the train station was packed with many backpackers like us! =)

the railway was very dusty and duper polluted. The whole place was filled with exhaust gases that I can hardly breathe! *cough*cough*

We played cards, ate donuts and chatted till whee hours before drawing our curtains and tried to sleep on the jerky train.

-my rabbit doughnut-

I dozed off in less than a minute while the guys took longer to fall asleep… according to them its too bright on the upper bed. That I’ll never know cos I always get the convenient & bigger lower bed. =)

Day 2 – Chiangmai to Pai : 175km

We reached Chiangmai train station at approx 10am.

Walked around the city, catch a cheap lunch for 370 Baht at the city outskirts before collecting our car at 12 noon.

Here we go on our Self Drive Trip around Chiangmai with my fellow travel companions:

Driver #1: Weizhi
Driver #2: Wei Guo
Navigator: Zhihao
Photographer #1: Ms Gwen
Photographer #2: Peishan

Mae Sa Falls

First stop, Mae Sa Fall. We paid an entrance fee of 100 Baht per pax and we went by foot up the ’10 levels’ water fall. It was a tiring start for OL (‘Office Lady’) who have not been exercising AT ALL *opps! Thanks weizhi and all for waiting and making sure I dun faint and row down the hills without anyone realizing! *haha!

-Finally, we reached the end of the trail.-

-Us playing with water-

-A-lar-Carte Fastfood-

Catch a quick bite of fries and onion rings on the way down to Butterfly farm. The little Dalmatian gave me a fright by sniffing us around! *haha! Thereafter, I insist on them forming a ‘triangle protection’ around me whenever we eat outdoors with animals roaming around.

Butterfly Farm

We paid 50 Baht per pax for the entrance to the Butterfly Farm BUT there is only ONE pathetic butterfly. *haha! Quite funny though! Without butterfly at the butterfly farm, we took pictures with the flowers instead. =)

Pai Night Market

This is my favorite night market on this trip. I love the ambience, the cooling breeze, and the unique artistically furnished shops.

-Shop selling painting-

-A post card shop with a post box just beside it-

We had dinner at the Night Market for 600 Baht too! Very simple home cook meal. I like. =)

-Crossing the Pai River on the fragile bamboo bridge with no railings-

I din dare to cross at first. Who knows I might just fall over and be wash away by the cold night rapid flowing water. But weizhi without further ado, headed straight to the other side ignoring my concerns. *haha! I had no choice but to follow and I’m sure glad I did. =)

Baan Krating Resort

This is our 5 star accommodations. I was telling them that we’ll be staying in huts which MAYBE a distance apart from each other… so I want a guy to stay with us in case we have weird insects in the room… So we had this inside joke that our huts will be 10km apart and we’ll have to call for help 3 hours in advance so the guys can warm up and run to our rescue!*hee! And it turns out; we’re connected with an adjoining door. =) *erps!

We simply love everything in this resort! The comfy bed with 2 pillows! The clean toilets, slippers in the house and beautiful sceneries! =)

We dropped our backpacks and went out for dinner. When we return, the little black dog walked with us to our hut. The guys were damn funny! They insist we can pass our key to the dog and read ‘one two one’ to it and it’ll bring us to our hut! *haha! Even if it’s SO well trained, I think we’ll have to read in Thai for him to understand us yah!

But I din manage to watch sun rise at the beautiful resort. Although I woke up at 5am, I opened the door and saw Banana Trees!! *haha! I got scared and went back to sleep. *erps!

-Our adjoining huts-

The guys were duper lazy and refuse to wake up after my constant knocking… so I devised my very tactic to get them out of bed! I’ll switch on all the lights and turn the aircon to the minimum temperature! *wink!

It was approx 12 degrees Celsius and the misty clouds ahead made us feel like we are in heaven.
